The purpose of this discussion is to view wagdie at a high level and see where we can improve. Some of the topics will require the Keeperโ€™s participation so the Conclave is the best place to have the conversation for visibility.

Current Engagement Layers

Engagement Layer 1: Narrative SpacesJoining the narrative spaces would be where most participants would stay, so making that the most predictable and accesible layer would be essential.

Engagement Layer 2: Community SpacesCommunity run spaces with narrative recaps, lore discussion, Q&A, Tournaments, Quests, etc.

Engagement Layer 3: Character Development Building out your character story, role playing, personal content creationpersonal opinion:We do not need to compete with other projects, but be an incredibly fun addition to oneโ€™s weekly routine. The pitch to check out wagdie should be simple: โ€œThere is nothing like this in the space that delivers quality active story telling/participation experience in web3. Join us on these days and times to participate.โ€

Engagement Layer 1 is the most important as it has a cascade effect to each layer below it. This is where we focus on structuring and making participation easy and predictable.

For example, If our activity had a set schedule of Wednesday Night 6:00pm & Friday Night 6:00pm. (arbitrary dates/times) It would improve engagement in a few key ways:
-Easier onboarding.
-Wider participation as people can have a set entertainment-add to their week similar to tuning into a scheduled show.
-Structure that the community can then build upon with their own scheduled events. This is a key element for growth in engagement and new blood.

If our core members can easily lose track of the story, events, and quickly become lost, Newcomers will hardly stand a chance. What are your thoughts Pilgrim?

I think you nailed the engagement layers and I think that we can build systems of incentivization at each level (e.g., POAPs for community calls, tokens of concord for lore contributions, etc.)

Strongly agree that consistency for community events is important โ€“ both in timing and in host handle. I believe we wound down the Community Spaces account but Iโ€™m not sure why. There should be multiple Spaces hosts as backups for when Fate is busy.

I am all for a consistent community spaces/event. Itโ€™s akin to a D&D night. Mostly if we keep a good pattern that makes it easy for new people. The problem is how do even first get those new people to join those spaces, without something to incentivize them. The web3 space is full of greed and always looking for the grass is greener.

I think one of the ways we can lean into this and encourage participation (even for those not owning a WAGDIE) is when these theatrical events are occurring - involve the audience & allow for outside participationโ€ฆ which responsibility falls back on us to set this up, as a communityโ€ฆ but for instance we have the 30 (now 28) in the right pathโ€ฆ we should have setup some kind of polling and/or maybe even wagering on whom would survive and speculation on what might happen.

Look at sports betting websites that even do betting on political eventsโ€ฆ I remember bets being placed on Trump v Biden, but then also funny things on what phrases might be said, what might occur etcโ€ฆ

Maybe setting up some kind of WAGDIE BETs program that rewards participants and is open to all to participate might be something we could think about.

  • POAP for participation that could lead to utility/fractional voting power or collect X amount to get 1 vote token
  • Polling/Betting / ways for all audience to participate and feel involved, even those without WAGDIE and especially those without a WAGDIE involved in Quest/Tournament/Key Event (Rightpath)
  • Scheduled D&D Night/s @M3RL1N and if not always sticking to the schedule, at least maybe having 1 night per week that is intended as the BIG event night/time or releasing schedule out ahead in time when possible so we can update wiki keynotes to remind people upcoming event, set event calendar in discord, do more to promo/prepare
  • Schedule recap taking Worm of Nameless HQ audio drops and maybe creating an account that replays through the story events that occurred starting from DAY 1 and is recapping things with random POAP drops for catching up / chance to collect artwork for all key events.

I would be interested to see a scheduled community led event on a weekly basis. It could be a supplement to the teams storytelling experience while also providing some general summary and overview.

In my opinion an excellent way to do this would be with bite-sized community storytelling experiences with community commentary in between. In my mind this would be very similar to the tournament event we held with the storytelling content being of similar length and format to the advertisements that Josiah put together. However, rather than advertisements, these could be small sub storylines that relate back to the primary narrative and as such provide some overview of current events in the process.

Imagine this -

Weโ€™re in a community space where weโ€™re discussing recent events and interacting as a community. We pause to hear some recent news that was brought to the camp. This introduces a roleplaying experience between someone playing a nights watchman who had caught Julian Tryhard runnings in terror away from Mount Turlo. In typical fashion, Julian Tryhard drunkenly and humorously explains what he witnessed and claims he was only running away to fetch his sword. We then cut back to the community spaces and continue discussing with a handful of similar fun bits of contents mingled in between dialogue throughout the event.

I think it would provide a great opportunity for character buildup and community roleplay in a defined space as well.

This could open up an opportunity for a roleplay guild for those interested in exploring voice acting? We have lots of people interested in roleplay and acting out their characters at the moment who lack a dedicated space to do so. This provides that outlet to develop it.

One additional area of planned improvement will be the opening up of official Twitter spaces for community discussion at the end.

Expect to see something like this soon:
Official narrative portion > community moderated discussion.

This has a few downsides including recordings not being only narrative focused but the upsides are higher visibility and engagement.

This is not a replacement for community led spaces just another avenue for discussion and onboarding.

This was the purpose the larp channel in the library but over time, it became a place for ppl to just drop their larp tweets and accounts. It seemed like the community displayed most of their lapping on the public square of Twitter rather than inside the library

I didnโ€™t want people missing any of the larping on twitter so I take some responsibility for that direction. I want to encourage all forms of larping and happy to do whatever we can to encourage all levels of contribution, but donโ€™t want to do anything that discourages or takes away from others contributions.

The good thing about the storytelling concept is it not only provides a small outlet for us to hone our skills as a community but also is somewhat of a call to action to encourage people to do so.

I agree! And think this should be an ongoing conversation forward progress.

Would also think to add that we could maybe benefit from other topics or segments. I like to call something like โ€œwhats above the floorโ€. So many communities focus on floor and whatโ€™s sitting on it. But a lot of wagdies get purchased above the floor and would love to just talk aesthetic. But probably something always very brief. Other than that you said we donโ€™t want to compete with other projects but I see that there could be some groups where they have just vibe spaces as well too and would be cool if we took some of the songs we got and have those on a loop or play to vibe out and just talk about whatever comes up. NFT market, tradfi market, hobbies, sportsโ€ฆliterally whatever.

Just a quick thought and will look to read the rest of the thread. But would overall love to see this developed more because I personally feel like my twitter has been put into a bubble. Maybe cause all I talk about is wagdie now but would love to see reach better

Would hosting a spaces BEFORE THE EVENT help? Iโ€™m sure there are some cases to be made where itโ€™s not suggested.

Kind of like when goblins are all grunting or moon runners howling or whatever. We could have some spaces (THAT COULD USE A CATCHY TITLE) where weโ€™re all talking in old English vibing out. I think if possibly we had a group of us talking all English-Y it might get people to feel more comfortable larping?

Also sorry for the rant. But to echo what your saying @M3RL1N. The spaces @KingOffling is in right now should happen more. Having a promotional campaigns to where. If NECESSARY to get some twitter spaces with other hosters. Or spaces host. I think having @josiah.peace there to be able to explain the other aspects of the utility of C00.

Iโ€™ve seen this work well from other projects. Many donโ€™t end up tuning into the community lead spaces after the official one ends.

Bear with me, this is long and may go a little off topic but I think I can tie it up nicely.

Iโ€™m pretty new to NFTs, like less than 6 months new. The Twins were virtually my 1st NFT purchase. I learned a lot about web3 over the past couple months, and had the chance to talk to some smart and talented people. Not to mention getting lost in the puzzles, story and lore.

I got a couple friends who are huge D&D and Dark Souls nerds, but they have no interest in NFTs. Iโ€™m willing to bet my decrepit Iโ€™m not alone in this. Thereโ€™s no way Iโ€™m convincing them to drop hundreds of dollars to give this jpeg thing a try, even if D&D/DS nerds are arguably the people we need the most.

From a monetary perspective, we need to lower the barrier to entry (by a lot) if we want new blood. One of the things Iโ€™ve learned about web3 is that everyone here is ostensibly rich AF. For most people, it makes no sense why a WAGDIE character would cost more than Elden Ring.

We need to lower the cost of entry for 2 main reasons:

#1 Onboard more talented people who might show interest in the WAGDIE genre (GENCON crowd) but are hesitant to join the web3 world and/or donโ€™t have the means to do so.

#2 Encourage more participation for things like quests. I canโ€™t stress this enough: Itโ€™s not sustainable to have the character I convinced my friend to spend a few hours pay on die after one quest.

I realize this may ruffle the feathers of those who approach NFTs as investments, and only want the price to go up. Two points on this:

#1: Iโ€™d argue the investment/alpha crowd isnโ€™t the one we want. Besides the money, I actually donโ€™t think the barrier to entry is that high, you just have to be the right type of person. The investment crowd isnโ€™t going to dive into the lore, to the D&D crowd itโ€™s 2nd nature.

#2: Iโ€™d argue a rising floor price is counterproductive. Who is going to send their character on a quest if the floor price goes above 1 ETH? I have trouble justifying it at .08.

So what do we do about it?

You can make the argument that itโ€™s all CC0 and you donโ€™t need to buy a character or invest anything to enjoy the story. While thatโ€™s true, we all know itโ€™s a lot more fun to participate, you also learn a lot more.

Bennen.ethโ€™s and DontFeedTheWolfโ€™s POAP idea has me the most excited. Make the POAP a Token of Concord like the Monarch was. Hand it out like candy to anyone who shows interest. Give it a vote and have it serve as an onboarding tool for web3 in general.

Once they have a say in the story, maybe even dipped their toes into web3 for the 1st time, theyโ€™re more likely to invest monetarily and participate in things like quests.

Now I have my first character, read the wiki, joined the discord, went back and listened to spaces, pumped to be here, now what? Some ideas that havenโ€™t been brought up in this thread:

  • A town bulletin board (website) with all the active core & community quests/puzzles (wiki only has core).
  • A community pool of characters that can be used for quests.
    • Example: Thereโ€™s a bunch of people who want to participate, but canโ€™t afford to lose a character. Let that group compete in a side quest to win a character from the community pool.
  • Some sort of template for puzzles/quests to follow, as well as a simple vetting process. In practice this means:
    • Clearly defined risks/rewards
    • Letting a conclave rep in on it. I want to avoid puzzles that lead to scams/self promotion. It hasnโ€™t happened yet but I think itโ€™s only a matter of time.
  • Increase the flow of tokens so that more active participants with less money can have better voting representation.
  • Create more chances to receive a token outside of sacrificing a character
  • A place for collaboration requests and offers
    • Somewhere people can go to offer their services: art, writing, puzzles, etc. I have a feeling that people might be willing to fill out a few character sheets in exchange for one.

Lastly some thoughts about Twitter Spaces: The team puts so much effort into the audio production of Spaces and it inevitably gets lost during the live event. Just go back and listen to the recording, itโ€™s night and day. I know Twitter is one of the foundation blocks of this project, but Iโ€™d love to eventually explore other options for live events.

If you read all of this thank you. Iโ€™m incredibly appreciative of this project and all the enjoyment itโ€™s brought. Hopefully some ideas in this thread will help others enjoy it as much as I have.
