Draft Proposal: Wagdie Visions

Hi all, here’s a proposal for a derivative project I am currently spending some time on. Looking to judge community sentiment on this and get feedback. I am working on this myself, so while it’d be great to get some funding allowing me to spend more time on it, but happy to discuss what the community finds appropriate.
Looking forward to comments:

Proposal Name: Wagdie Visions

:skull: Abstract | Two or three sentences that summarize the proposal.

A wagdie NFT derivative project consisting of visions of important landmarks in the world from past cycles. These can be discovered by travelers through a short β€œside-quest” story line, with riddles, told on twitter.

:skull: Motivation | A statement on why the WAGDIE Community should implement

Generate additional interest from within and outside the community by fleshing out the world.

:skull: Rationale | An explanation of how the proposal aligns with the WAGDIE Community’s mission and guiding values.

We don’t know much about past cycles, but I imagine each cycle sharing similarities, such as important landmarks (e.g. church of her). These will be present in all of them but in a different form/location. The idea would be to generate diverse images for each of the landmarks currently on the map for each of the 17 past cycles. This would be a way to flesh out past cycles and put more visual aspect to landmarks we see on the map and hear about. Visions will be varied (different themes, but all pixelart). They can be considered subjective to the traveler experiencing them, so there is no claim that these are canon should we learn more about past cycles as the main story progresses.

:skull: Specifications | A detailed breakdown of the platforms and technologies that will be used.

This will be contract and twitter, art will be ai generated and cc0. Twitter will be in character, telling a short story of us meeting an β€œexperiential historian”, someone who studies history be experiencing it, through help of a sage and mind altering substances. We will be directed towards the temple, there will be small riddles to find the contract, open minting and then every travelers can experience 1 vision. The first batch of images will be 9 landmarks marked on the map * 17 cycles = 153, but max supply will be dynamic and more will be added once the map expands further. Minting will be free, but donations are accepted by the temple. Vision will not be constant, but will fade with time and token transfers, but revisiting the sage will clear them up to their original state again.

:skull: Steps to Implement and timeline | The steps to implement the proposal, including associated costs, labor, and other resources for each step where applicable.

Generate Art (pixel art disco diffusion): in progress, expected to complete End Aug

  • Implement ERC721A contract: done and successfully tested on Rinkeby
  • Finalize twitter storyline: draft available, completed end of July
  • Write metadata, upload to ipfs… : End Aug – mid Sept
  • Expected mint: Mid sept, twitter engagement to start early sept
  • Total time estimate would be around 200h

:skull: Overall Cost | The total cost to implement the proposal (in ETH).

Subscription costs and deployment costs: 1 Eth
Partial funding for all activities: 4 Eth

Total: 1-5 Eth

Some early examples:

I like your creativity, and I don’t mind the potential of releasing community funds for art related projects, but I would be hesitant to vote β€˜aye’ on this one for a couple reasons:

  • If you’re the only one working on it, what happens if you leave?
  • I don’t see the advantage of this being on chain, even with the fade mechanics.

The art is great, especially the 1st two, and I really want to give you props for putting ideas forward. I never want to discourage anyone from submitting their ideas despite how others may feel about it. Keep up the good work.

This artwork is incredible. Outside of this proposal I recommend reaching out to @Rollinorama @KingOffling and anyone on the wagdie.wiki -

Regardless, there is a HUGE demand for imagery in tandem with summary of the story and finding methods to make this dense story more digestible for all.

Would any of the projects earnings be directed back to the community treasury?

I’m curious for your process with these.
What software are you using for the AI generation?
Outside of the AI, what tools / process are you applying.

As @Dontfeedthewolf mentioned these would be tremendous depictions for the wiki, especially if the system can do more than buildings. Would love to see some alternates of different scenes.

Regarding the proposal, I am cautious about dictating lore of the past cycles, as I assume the developers have some level of history pre-written. If we begin solidifying our own rendition of it, things could come to clash with their creation.

Additionally, apart from a few instances of dramatic change such as The Kingdoms of Yore being destoryed, we genuinely don’t know if there had been any significant change within the landmarks across the 17 cycles, or if they had even all been there from the start.

The concept requires a lot of presumption of the narrative, which is risky beyond the possibility of the work being useless if the core storyline reveals it to be inaccurate.

Thanks everyone for the nice and thoughtful feedback! Let me try to address the question and elaborate a bit.

I was thinking of visions of past cycles for a couple of reasons:

  • visions have no claim to show the truth about the past. While our guide will claim we see the past, there are too many conflicting accounts for them all to be true. The observations are very subjective and tainted by the memory of the pilgrim. I would lay no claim that these are canon wagdie lore. This could explicitly be explained in the twitter story preceding the mint.
  • i was thinking of past cycles, as i expect we will see more art from the team for this cycle as the story progresses. Iβ€˜m happy to help with illustrstions for the wiki, i wouldnt see imagery from this cycle in this project.
  • as there will be different landmarks and cycles, i was thinking of it as collectibles since you might wanna get all churches or everything from one cycle and then obviously a nft project came to mind. Also, going for contract + twitter seemed in the wagdie spirit. People can then also browse the collection on opensea or the like, increasing visibility. Also, one could then build additional mechanics on top.
  • with the contract on chain and art on ipfs, i could leave and everything will still be there. Happy to discuss transferring contract ownership to the conclave in such a scenario.
  • if the proposal gets significant funding from the conclave, iβ€˜d be happy to think about splitting royalties so the conclave can make good on the investment. Honestly, no idea how much that would be though….
  • as tools i am currently only using Pixel art diffusion (Pixel-Art-Diffusion/Pixel_Art_Diffusion_v3_0_(With_Disco_Symmetry).ipynb at main Β· KaliYuga-ai/Pixel-Art-Diffusion Β· GitHub)

Hope that addresses all comments, and thanks again!

@Dalawho Thank you again for this well thought out proposal. The Conclave Representatives have taken it into consideration and, in alignment with several discussion points stated here, have decided not to move forward with this initiative at this time.

That being said, the quality of your work has been unanimously praised and we want to invite you into the appropriate discord channels to explore ways in which you can continue to manifest your project with support.

Please let us know if you’re interested. Great work friend.

Best,

CR

@Dalawho just wanted to make sure you saw the message above from Josiah and check in if you had any further questions or inquiries. Also wanted to remind you that you’re always welcome to retry garnering interest/resubmitting a proposal.

Hi @josiah.peace and @Dontfeedthewolf,
thank you for the feedback, I did see the message, but somehow figured the thread was locked and I wouldn’t be able to reply!
The decision is very much in line with the comments, so I just want to thank everyone for reading through and thinking about the proposal!
I’ll be lurking in the discord and feel free to tag me if there something you think I can contribute to the community.

Thank you Dalawho and for the record - your artwork is incredible. Sometimes proposals lose steam because they require more clarity and work, sometimes it’s just timing (bad week in crypto, less engagement etc.) Other times too, it could just be lack of attention due to lack of connections - so feel free to also build a little network among the peers to aid in getting more eyes/engagement on future proposals!

Hope to see you around in the discord, maybe on spaces or twitter. And if you get a new proposal idea or figure out a new approach for this one, the Proposal Template has a section on the bottom for resubmissions.
